Meet Dan and Holly

Holly is a wife, homemaker, and aunt — and the creator of Expert Advice. At various times, she has also served as a teacher and mentor. When she’s not up to her elbows in a new crafting obsession, she assists at Pilgrim Light Press as Executive in Charge of Humor.

Dan is the best husband a gal could ever have. He’s also the one who turns Holly’s ideas into actual cardboard — and has personally counted 396 cards more times than he cares to admit. When he’s not at the printer, he’s masterminding other Pilgrim Light Press projects, reading history, or asking Why?

Why This Game was Created

One Christmas season, Holly purchased a silly-looking “family” game as a gift to one of her nephews. Like a good Auntie, she flipped through the card deck first to pull out—What? Seriously?!? You’ve got to be joking! After eliminating half the deck, she realized she didn’t have enough cards to make the game work.

Later that holiday season, as she was drafting her own set of “rules for the coming year,” she got the idea for Expert Advice. People are always giving each other advice with lots of different reasons for it. But what if the advice and the reasons were all mismatched? And what if you could switch the “always” and the “never”?! And what if the person giving the advice could wear a really dorky pair of orange glasses? … And what if the person buying the game could know somebody’s aunt ALREADY screened the cards!!

So a spreadsheet was started, and a game was born! A small gathering of family played the inaugural hand, and when the first card combination brought loud guffaws, she knew it was going to work.
